Best Internet Speed for Streaming

Streaming quality depends mainly on download speed, but stability is just as important. A 4K stream can fail on a connection that has high peak speed but frequent drops. Households with several TVs, phones and tablets need extra headroom because every device shares the same connection.

How streaming uses your connection

For one HD stream, moderate download speed may be enough. For 4K, multiple users or smart TVs connected over weak Wi-Fi, you need more capacity and a stable signal. Ping is less important for ordinary streaming than it is for gaming, but jitter and packet loss can still cause buffering.
